UFS2 verfügt nun mit dem Mechanismus "Softupdates" über eine effiziente Methode zum Schreiben der Metadaten, die das Filesystem stets in einem konsistenten Zustand hält. Somit stellt UFS2 eine zentrale Funktion von Journaling Filesystemen zur Verfügung.
