filesystem auf device statt nur auf einer Partition erstellen

Hi,

kann es zu Problemen kommen, wenn statt z.B. /dev/sdb1 direkt /dev/sdb zum erstellen eines Filesystems nimmt (mkfs.ext3 /dev/sbd).

Problem ist folgendes. Ich hab ein 4,5TB Raid 5. Wenn ich mit fdisk eine Partition erstelle, ist diese nachher nur ca. 500GB groß und ich kann diese auch im fdisk nicht größter machen.

Wenn ich statt dessen direkt auf dem deivce ein Filesystem erstelle, wird mir dir volle größe angezeigt.

also, FS direkt auf dem device geht wohl, ist aber nach dem reboot wieder weg ;) trotzdem würde ich gerne wissen, warum mir fdisk denn nur 5xxGB zur verfügung stellt, obwohl 4,5TB da wären (welche ja auch wirklich da sind, da ich sie sehe, wenn ich direkt ein FS auf dem device erstelle und dieses dann mounte).
