Kernel Panic beim erstellen einer virtuellen maschine

Hallo leute,

ich komme einfach nicht weiter... ich wollte mir auf einer virtuellen maschine (virtual pc 2004) linux installieren... das bootmenü wird geladen dann klick ich auf installieren der läd alles und dann kommt mittendrin ne meldung:

<0> Kernel panic- not syncing: Attempted to kill the idle task!

no cont in shutdown!

und dann passiert gar nichts mehr...

hab schon gegooglet und rausgefunden das es bei den meisten der ram war... hab mir gedacht das kann nicht der laptop auf dem ich das installieren wollte ist neu. habe trozdem mal einen anderen ram ausprobiert und es kam die selbe meldung. habe auch schon eine andere festplatte ausprobiert aber wieder die selbe meldung...

ich bin am ende mit meinem latein...

weiß jemand woran das liegen könnte???
