Gilt aber nicht für /etc/shadow. Daran also nichts ändern.

Es ging auch eher um die Verzechnisberechtigung auf /etc,

auf gewisse Dateien sollte niemand außer root Leserechte haben, dies gilt nicht nur für /etc/shadow, sondern auch für einige andere.

find /etc -perm 600

Zeigt eine Liste von all diesen Dateien an.
